NEUTYPE · Editorial note

What we mean by Neutype

Neutype · English edition

A job title can tell you only so much about someone. Learn what they listen to, which images hold their attention, and what they lose track of time making, and a different picture begins to appear.

Neutype starts with those details. People moving between fields, using new tools in their own ways, and bringing their tastes into their work and lives. The name expresses our interest in their sensibilities, ways of thinking, and ways of living.

Meeting people

We want to see a person's studio and desk, the images they save, and the places they return to. We want to ask about the choices they have made and what they are making now. Their words and work should have room to tell us who they are.

Following the culture people make

Music, images, clothes, games, spaces. The things people love pass between them, creating forms of expression and relationships. Neutype will look at the work, the people making and enjoying it, and the places where they gather.

Looking at technology in everyday life

When a new tool arrives, we want to know what changes in practice. We will look closely at how people make things, work together, and spend their time. The choices and experiences of the person using the tool are central to the story.

The stories we want to tell

We plan to gather these scenes through interviews, essays, observation, and criticism. We will distinguish what we have seen and heard from our interpretation, and provide sources for quotations and research.

Instagram will carry scenes from the magazine; the website and newsletter will give the stories more room. This is our opening editorial note. Next come the people, the work, and the places, one story at a time.
